Lately, my library classes have been working with folktales, fables, legends and fairy tales. I've put hours into planning engaging lessons. Today, that was all thrown out the window!\r\n\r\nThis was one of the best days I've ever had teaching library classes, and that's thanks to you! As my first class of the day came in, one of my 2nd grade girls saw a book about the Devils Tower in Wyoming, and immediately became excited because she's been there, and she heard a \"story\" about it that she wanted to tell me. Out went the Three Billy Goats Gruff, and in came \"S\" to tell us her story. She told the Lakota legend of the tower and fascinated her audience. We talked about legends and the tribes represented in our school who have stories about Devils Tower. \r\n\r\nWhen we finished our discussion, the kids built the story out of Legos, working in pairs. This class was the most on-task they have ever been, and they were so proud of their creations! \r\n\r\nThe lesson worked so well, I used the same materials for each class today, including my 6th graders. For the first time ever, EVERY student was actively engaged in the lesson: working with partners they had never chosen before, laughing, brainstorming, planning, creating and showcasing their creations. It was easy to adjust the lesson and assignment for the other grades, and while the kids thought they were playing, I was amazed at their details.\r\n\r\nThanks to you, we will be doing many more activities like this while building their love of reading.","fullyFundedDate":1725079086525,"projectUrl":"project/literacy-and-legos/8713457/","projectTitle":"Literacy and Legos","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hagins","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2863222_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1525714022721","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2863222"},{"teacherId":9734586,"projectId":8746648,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for our robots.
