The items were sent closer towards the end of the school year, and my students were still able to enjoy them. For example, the globe. I was excited about receiving it and my students were fascinated by it, as well and I loved it! Piquing their curiosity as a science teacher is essential because that opens doors to discussions that lead to deeper thinking and interest in learning. The globe will pair well with a unit delivered at the beginning of the year, so I'm preparing to actively use it to enhance the learning through senses, sight and touch. Another item that my students were thrilled about was the lighting ball, I knew that would be a hit in my classroom and my students were so thrilled about it that their excitement led to the early retirement of the lightening ball. It was definitely unexpected and unplanned, but we were able to accept this premature decision and move forward with more wisdom and understanding. I was expecting to have my lightening ball a little longer but out of the accident came a very important and teachable moment of property value, accountability, self-discipline and maturity that I think the students were able to receive and embrace a little better due to the circumstances, at least that's what I hope. \r\n\r\nOther than that, I was able to use my yard stick during a lab for demo purposes versus coming up with something that could compare but not quite lbs. Headphones were a hit and I found a way to use them as a form of exchange, to encourage productivity, focus and accountability. So basically, I would only allow 3 out at a time, making it first come first serve. The students who had them would have to agree to delivering work from the lesson, participation (their best efforts) and wiping them down w a disinfectant wipe, in exchange for the headphones. It actually worked pretty well, and I realize that I could probably come up with a more refined system for next year because of its success, hmm (currently in thought). \r\n\r\nAgain, thank you for taking the time to think about my classroom needs/wants and for taking the time to read this. Students and I would not have the unique experiences we've encountered, thus far, without your help. Sending you heartful appreciation, peace and blessings.","fullyFundedDate":1774452431558,"projectUrl":"project/growing-a-science-culture/9966481/","projectTitle":"Growing a Science culture","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Carter","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10388174"},{"teacherId":9928844,"projectId":10274494,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for helping bring this frozen drink maker into our classroom. It gives them something positive to look forward to and helps them feel rewarded for their hard work, effort, and growth.\r\n\r\nWe have been using the slushie machine as a classroom reward when students complete their work, stay focused, and continue trying even when the assignment is difficult. One of my favorite moments was seeing their reaction when they realized the slushies were for them and that their hard work was being celebrated. It brought a lot of smiles into the room and helped create the kind of classroom environment I always want my students to have; one where they feel supported, encouraged, and appreciated.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, I can continue motivating my students in a way that is more affordable and sustainable for our classroom. This project has already made a powerful impact on my students by turning science into something they can actually see and experience. Many of my students learn best when lessons are hands-on, visual, and connected to real life, and this telescope gives them the opportunity to explore space in a way that a textbook or video simply cannot. It helps make topics like the moon, planets, stars, and deep-space objects feel real and reachable for them.\r\n\r\nWhat has been most exciting for my students is knowing that they can look through a real telescope and observe parts of the sky with their own eyes. For many of them, this is their first time having access to this type of technology, and it has already sparked curiosity, questions, and meaningful conversations. Students who may sometimes be quiet or hesitant during traditional lessons have shown more interest when the learning becomes something they can physically engage with. It gives them a chance to feel like real scientists.\r\n\r\nYour support has helped provide my students with an experience they may not have had outside of school. More importantly, it has reminded them that science is not out of reach and that they deserve access to exciting, high-quality learning opportunities. Because of you, our cheerleaders now have the proper shoes and socks they need to perform safely and to feel confident and united again after an incredibly difficult year.\r\nWhen the new shoes and socks arrived, the reaction from all of our cheerleaders was unforgettable. They were screaming with excitement, smiling from ear to ear, and were impatient with excitement to try their shoes on! After months of uncertainty and loss following the tornado, this moment was a moment of hope that everyone needed. They were so grateful for the support and generosity provided by strangers, they mentioned it for days.\r\n\r\nBefore receiving new socks and shoe, many of our cheerleaders were practicing in old, worn-out shoes and socks or no shoes at all due to their shoes being uncomfortable. During performances and games, each cheerleader wore whatever pair of mostly white sneakers they had or could borrow. These shoes caused blisters, soreness, and discomfort due to improper support. Since receiving their new cheer shoes, I noticed a significant difference in both their performance and in their well-being. Complaints about aching feet and soreness in their legs significantly decreased, allowing them to focus more on learning routines and finding joy in cheerleading which is an outlet for many of our team members where it is their \"happy place.\"\r\n\r\nEven more importantly, the new shoes and socks have created a sense of cohesion and pride within the team. Now feeling confident in their new, matching shoes, the team formed stronger bonds amongst each other. They carry themselves differently now, with more confidence, more energy, and a renewed sense of belonging which has been incredibly powerful and touching to watch.\r\n\r\nWith proper footwear, each team member can cheer and jump safely, with confidence, and fully engage in practice. Moving forward, we're focused on continuing to rebuild our program and school spirit, and your support has played a huge role in making that possible.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping restore not just what was lost, but the unexpected boost of confidence, unity, and pride in our team. Seeing them feel proud and comfortable in their classroom was incredibly powerful.\r\n\r\nWe are using the sofa as a flexible learning space during independent reading, small group discussions, and sensory breaks. During our recent human body lesson, one group used the sofa area to collaborate on a respiratory system project, and I noticed students who typically struggle to stay engaged remained focused and calm. It has also become a safe space for students who need a moment to regulate before rejoining instruction. That small shift in comfort has already made a big impact on participation and confidence.\r\n\r\nNext, we will continue using this space as we move into new science units and more project-based learning activities. Many of our students use technology at home, but this project allowed them to go beyond simply using technology and instead understand how it works. The Lucky Doug 6-in-1 Solar Robot Kits helped students explore engineering, problem-solving, and renewable energy in a meaningful, accessible way. By building and experimenting with these robots, students were able to connect abstract science concepts to real-world applications.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part of this project for our students was seeing their robots come to life. Students were highly motivated as they assembled different robot models and observed how solar energy powered movement. For many of our learners, especially those who struggle with traditional textbook-based instruction, this hands-on approach increased engagement, focus, and confidence. Students took pride in completing their builds and enjoyed collaborating with classmates to troubleshoot and improve their designs.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who typically need additional support or encouragement especially warmed to this technology. Students who often feel hesitant in academic settings became leaders during the building process, explaining steps to peers and celebrating small successes.
