From the moment the materials arrived, they were excited to explore, play, and learn together. We are using them during social skills lessons, small-group activities, structured breaks, and opportunities for students to practice communication and interacting with peers. Some of my favorite moments have been watching students naturally begin talking, laughing, taking turns, problem-solving, and connecting with one another while using the materials.\r\n\r\nFor students with Autism, these seemingly simple interactions can represent really meaningful growth. The resources give us natural, low-pressure opportunities to practice skills such as waiting, sharing, flexible thinking, handling frustration, communicating wants and needs, and being part of a group. They also give me opportunities to teach and reinforce these skills in the moment, rather than only talking about them during a lesson.\r\n\r\nOur next step is continuing to use these materials to build greater independence and help my students carry these skills into their classrooms, friendships, and everyday lives.\r\n\r\nI truly cannot thank you enough for choosing to believe in my students. When you supported this project, you gave them so much more than new materials. You gave them opportunities to make a friend, find the courage to join a group, practice communicating, work through frustration, laugh together, and experience the feeling that they belong. Those are the moments that make my teacher heart incredibly happy, and they are happening because of your kindness. Thank you for seeing the potential in my students and for helping me give them a place where they can feel understood, supported, successful, and proud of exactly who they are. ❤️","fullyFundedDate":1783279964535,"projectUrl":"project/helping-autism-learners-connect-and-grow/10334779/","projectTitle":"Helping Autism Learners Connect and Grow","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Foote","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10527705_orig.png?crop=802,802,x0,y34&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1782952867323","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/teresafoote"},{"teacherId":10527705,"projectId":10328768,"letterContent":"This rug has completely transformed an area of our classroom into a welcoming space where my students can gather, learn, connect, and regulate throughout their school day. From the moment it arrived, they were excited to have a comfortable space that felt like it was created especially for them.\r\n\r\nWe use the rug every single day for social skills lessons, small-group activities, sensory and regulation breaks, games, and times when students simply need a comfortable place to reset. Having a clearly defined gathering area has been especially helpful for my students with Autism, who often benefit from predictable spaces and routines.\r\n\r\nOne of the things I love most is seeing my students naturally gravitate toward this space. What started as an empty area of our classroom has become a place where we practice important skills, build relationships, work through difficult moments, laugh together, and celebrate successes.\r\n\r\nOur next step is continuing to build this area into a space that supports both learning and regulation while helping students become more independent in recognizing what they need to be successful.\r\n\r\nThank you for giving my students so much more than a rug. You helped us create a place where they can feel comfortable, connected, supported, and that they truly belong.
