My plan was for my students to use morning time to socialize through games. I had started to notice that my students were obsessed with screen time and lacking in basic social skills. I believe school is not just about learning academics, but how to function in a society. That's when I decided to create this project. My original intention of allowing my students time to have social interaction that was organized through games was successful. My students started their day in positive moods, energized and ready for learning. However, I did realize the impact it would have on our Buddy Room friends.\r\n\r\nAfter some time, I decided to invite our 1st grade Buddy Room friends to play the games with us. We spent about 45 minutes on a Friday afternoon playing together. I loved it! Seeing the older students work with the younger students. It was sweet to witness. When I spoke to the 1st grade teacher what I didn't realize was how powerful this time really was. She had said that it's hard for 1st graders to play board games like this. Many of them still can't read so they can't follow the directions. Most of them have parents who work several jobs and don't have the time to teach their kids how to play these games. She mentioned how impossible it would be for her to teach all of her students the rules of these games. We decided then on, that we would meet twice a month for game time. \r\n\r\nThis time with the younger students has taught my students patience. The time with their peers taught them socialization and reminded them of the importance of play! Thank you, donors, for this. After the success in my room, several other classes began to have organized play and creativity.","fullyFundedDate":1732208599463,"projectUrl":"project/start-playing-games-with-my-class/8939005/","projectTitle":"Start Playing Games with My Class","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Myers","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1539732_orig.jpg?crop=958,958,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1700577181589","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/misswidemanscladd"},{"teacherId":4640220,"projectId":9106357,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for the cabinet. Your thoughtful contribution has made a significant difference in our classroom environment, allowing our students to focus better during independent work time.\r\n\r\nThe students are using the headphones in various ways that cater to their individual learning needs. For instance, during reading time, many students find it helpful to block out ambient noise, which allows them to dive deep into their books or reading materials. This focused time has improved their comprehension and retention of the material, as they can fully concentrate without distractions.\r\n\r\nThe headphones have also become an essential tool during math activities. When students are working on problem-solving exercises, the ability to minimize distractions allows them to concentrate on complex concepts without losing focus. This has led to increased engagement and a deeper understanding of the material being taught.\r\n\r\nMoreover, students who require additional support, such as those with sensory sensitivities, have found the headphones to be a game-changer. For these learners, the ability to block out distracting sounds can significantly reduce anxiety and help them feel more comfortable in the classroom setting. This has allowed them to participate more fully in lessons and group activities, fostering a sense of belonging and confidence.\r\n\r\nAs we continue to navigate the challenges of education, your contribution plays a vital role in our efforts to provide an enriching learning environment. The focus and concentration fostered by the noise-canceling headphones will undoubtedly lead to improved academic outcomes. We are excited to see how our students' progress will unfold with this added support.\r\n\r\nOnce again, thank you for your thoughtful gift.
