Most importantly, students are discovering that reading can be both meaningful and enjoyable.\r\n\r\nStudents who may not always be excited about reading are especially enjoying having more choices available to them. Some students are drawn to books about sports, adventure, humor, fantasy, or characters who face challenges they can relate to. I have also seen students become excited when they find a book that matches their interests and then share it with a friend. Having accessible, engaging books gives every student a chance to find something they want to read and helps build confidence as readers.\r\n\r\nAs we continue rebuilding our classroom library, my goal is to create a space where students feel comfortable exploring books and developing their own reading identities. Students are choosing books based on their interests, reading independently, and building the habit of reading consistently. For some students, reaching 300 minutes can feel like a big challenge, so having a small reward helps make the goal feel achievable and exciting.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue building consistent reading habits throughout the school year. I hope students will eventually become motivated not only by the reward, but also by the stories, characters, and ideas they discover through reading.
