We got to use them the first week when we created our external and internal self portraits. Since then, students frequently ask me \"Ms. Matthews, can I use the colors of the world crayons [or colored pencils] for my drawing?\" They know they are always available for them to use and they take pride in making sure everyone is appropriately represented in their drawings. \r\n\r\nMost recently, we completed a Dr. King artwork using our crayons and watercolors. Students had a blast using the watercolors and seeing their artwork turn into a masterpiece. These materials have been well loved already and have allowed all students to feel represented in their artwork. These keychains will be able to be attached to their badge reels and serve as a daily reminder that they are loved and appreciated. They continued to ask about when they could use them and how often. We use our supplies as often as possible now and I have seen my students improve, especially our 6th graders, by leaps and bounds by just having these simple practice pads and supplies. \r\n\r\nWe are going to continue to push our students for harder, more technical music as they progress as musicians. My students were surprised to see the fidget bands on every chair. I have students who bounce their feet and this causes a distraction especially on our wood floors. The orange fidget chair cushions have helped my students control their movement in their chairs. Their absolute favorite things are the hand fidgets. My students were so excited when the packages arrived with all of the little goodies. It gave them incentive to do the right thing so they can earn the rewards. Especially popular are the squeezable monster faces fidgets. They get to pick the one they want when they do something extra special. One way to earn it is by reading their library book when they don't know what else to do. In the beginning of the year most kids would just talk and visit, while I had one student do the right thing. \r\n\r\nCandy is always a winner for rewards. We play a game where tables compete by earning points for doing the right thing or deleting points for doing otherwise. It meant a lot to all of us, truly.\r\n\r\nWe have already used the aprons and glasses during our pumpkin carving lab, which let students get messy, creative, and hands-on while staying fully protected. We used this lab to learn about food webs and decomposers. Soon we will be using this gear even more as we start building our classroom volcanoes and begin working with chemical reactions.
