As the school's first Spanish club, students were excited from the very beginning—eagerly opening packages, exploring materials, and actively participating in every cultural activity. The resources from Proyecto Manos a la Obra have transformed our classroom into a vibrant space filled with art, culture, creativity, and collaboration. During our Ojos de Dios activity, students selected vibrant thread colors to create personalized \"Eyes of God\" for themselves, friends, family members, and staff. The storage cart stocked with scissors and art supplies helped keep materials organized and accessible during hands-on sessions. Educational games and buzzers added excitement and friendly competition to club events, increasing student participation and engagement. Students especially enjoyed collaborating on the Frida Kahlo art installation, using colorful materials and tissue flowers to create artistic displays inspired by Hispanic culture. \r\n\r\nOur Cinco de Mayo celebration became one of the year's highlights, with decorations and themed backdrops transforming the room into a festive cultural environment where students proudly took photos and celebrated together. The keyring tokens and spicy Mexican candies were also a memorable part of the experience and helped create excitement and cultural appreciation among students. Through your generosity, Proyecto Manos a la Obra helped support Cultura Viva with an explosion of creativity, cultural awareness, and meaningful student engagement that made a lasting impact on our school community.","fullyFundedDate":1772124979754,"projectUrl":"project/proyecto-manos-a-la-obra-hands-on-learn/10021987/","projectTitle":"Proyecto Manos a La Obra: Hands-On Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Profesora Ferreira","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10396027_orig.jpg?crop=1540,1540,x0,y436&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1769024043137","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10396027"},{"teacherId":10396191,"projectId":10032272,"letterContent":"Technology is helping my students learn by making lessons more interactive, engaging, and personalized. While many of our donors are familiar with using technology at home, iPads serve as powerful tools for creativity, collaboration, and personalized instruction in the classroom. Students can access interactive lessons, educational apps, and real-time feedback that meet them at their individual learning levels. For example, struggling readers can listen to text while following along, while advanced learners can dive deeper into enrichment activities—all within the same lesson.\r\n\r\nI've also seen particular students truly shine with this technology—especially those who may have previously felt disconnected from traditional instruction. One student who struggled to participate in class discussions now eagerly shares ideas by recording short video responses. Another student with fine motor challenges has gained confidence by typing instead of writing, allowing their ideas to flow more freely. Your generosity has helped create a more relaxed and comfortable learning environment for my students. As a teacher at a small rural high school, I want my classroom to be a place where students feel safe, welcomed, and ready to learn. The bean bags have quickly become a favorite spot for students during independent reading, small group discussions, and reflection activities. Recently, during a lesson on goal setting and future planning, several students chose to sit in the bean bags while completing their vision boards and writing about their goals. I noticed that students who are normally quiet and reserved were more open, engaged, and willing to participate.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the bean bags, they were so excited. Many of them immediately smiled and asked if they could sit in them right away. They could not believe that someone cared enough to donate something just for them. Several students said the classroom felt \"calm,\" \"comfortable,\" and \"more like home.\" Since receiving the bean bags, students have been eager to come into the classroom and are more focused during activities because they are comfortable and relaxed.\r\n\r\nThe next step for our class is to continue using the bean bags during our current college and career readiness projects. Students are researching colleges, careers, and future plans, and they will use the bean bags as they work on their final portfolios, personal reflections, and presentations. Our club launched with great enthusiasm during our first session, \"Cultivando Conciencia Cultural (Encuentro Cultural)\"—Creating Cultural Consciousness. Students actively participated in discussions to plan future events, design the club logo (now proudly displayed on our classroom door), and establish our motto: \"Appreciating diversity through cultural awareness.\" We even celebrated a birthday in Spanish, singing \"Cumpleaños Feliz\" and sharing well-wishes in Spanish.\r\n\r\nDuring our second session, \"Tradición y Artesanía,\" students explored the cultural significance of Ojos de Dios (God's Eyes) and created their own artifacts. Upcoming sessions include Frida Kahlo (Canción y Arte), La Piñata (Canción y Arte), Gastronomía Hispana, and La Celebración del 5 de Mayo, culminating in a vibrant cultural showcase featuring music, poetry, dance, art, and food. The materials provided through DonorsChoose made a tremendous impact. Supplies such as markers, paper, and craft materials enabled students to create meaningful cultural artifacts and engage with printed song lyrics and poetry. Cleaning supplies helped maintain an organized and respectful learning environment during hands-on activities. Additionally, multimedia tools such as the iPad and clicker enhanced instruction by supporting interactive lessons, including lyric analysis, poetry annotation, and vocabulary games, while allowing for flexible, student-centered engagement throughout the classroom.\r\n\r\nThrough Cultura Viva, students experience language learning in dynamic ways by integrating art, music, poetry, and technology to build proficiency, cultural awareness, and creative confidence.
