Because of you, my students now have access to magnetic tiles, self-correcting puzzles, and hands-on science stations that are making a tremendous impact on their learning.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the new materials, their excitement was contagious. They rushed to explore every item, and during our next choice time, every single student chose one of the activities that you helped fund. These resources have quickly become a regular and essential part of our classroom routine. We use them daily during center-based learning and supplemental activities to support core academic and life skills.\r\n\r\nMy high school students have developmental and cognitive disabilities, and they learn best through interactive, hands-on experiences. The magnetic tiles have become a creative outlet for exploring shapes, building structures, and even spelling their names and sight words—bringing literacy and STEM together in a way that is meaningful to them. The self-correcting puzzles help build confidence and independence by providing instant feedback, while the science stations introduce key concepts like cause and effect, categorizing, and basic problem-solving in fun, accessible ways.\r\n\r\nThese materials have allowed my students to engage in collaborative play, build fine motor and reasoning skills, and practice social communication like turn-taking and teamwork. One of my favorite moments was watching two students proudly build a structure together using the magnetic tiles, then using the letters to spell out each other's names—something they had never done before. These moments may seem small, but in our classroom, they are milestones.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we will continue incorporating these materials into thematic science units and functional skill-building lessons. They have opened the door to new ways of learning that are playful, personalized, and empowering. Your support has helped my students develop a love for learning that is rooted in exploration and success.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in my students and for helping us build a classroom that meets them where they are—and helps them grow far beyond.","fullyFundedDate":1738768653580,"projectUrl":"project/building-bright-minds-through-play/9097825/","projectTitle":"Building Bright Minds Through Play","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Horton","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4662449_orig.png?crop=408,408,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1738692103345","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4662449"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_98578","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":2072,"numTeachers":86,"percentFrplEligible":27,"percentAsian":14,"percentBlack":9,"percentWhite":62,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":7,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"24.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":69.9,"schoolId":98578,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about East Ridge High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"East Ridge High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/minnesota/south-washington-county-school-district-833/east-ridge-high-school/98578"}
