The students now have thick, supportive mats and soft, cozy blankets that provide genuine comfort and a sense of security. This elevated quality of rest has immediately paid dividends: just last week, following a particularly energetic science lesson, I observed one of my most active students settle down and fall asleep within minutes. When she woke up, she was calm, focused, and immediately chose to engage quietly with books, demonstrating how the quality of their rest now directly supports their positive behavior and ability to focus for the remainder of the day.\r\n\r\nThe children's first encounter with the new materials was met with immediate, appreciative joy. As we opened the boxes together, a collective \"Ooh!\" rippled through the room, followed by very gentle and respectful touches. Their reaction on the first day of use was perhaps the most telling: they didn't just drag the mats out; they proudly carried their new, labeled mats and arranged their blankets with care. One student summed up the general feeling perfectly by saying, \"It feels like my bed at home!\" This sense of home and comfort is exactly what we aimed to bring to our classroom, fostering a safer and more nurturing learning environment for all of them.\r\n\r\nHaving a restorative rest time is absolutely critical right now, as we move from basic concepts to more abstract, hands-on application. Your generous contribution is literally fueling the creativity and focus needed for this ambitious, collaborative learning endeavor, allowing the students to translate restful afternoons into dynamic, meaningful work.","fullyFundedDate":1746734652708,"projectUrl":"project/rest-mats-and-blankets-for-the-linden-tr/9318984/","projectTitle":"Rest Mats and Blankets for the Linden Tree Class","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Taylor","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10013502_orig.png?crop=723,723,x356,y54&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1746542006541","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10013502"},{"teacherId":9598684,"projectId":9293867,"letterContent":"Thank you for the recess equipment your donation and project provided for our upper elementary students. I had many excited students volunteering when the books arrived to help cover the books in contact paper to protect them so they could be used for many book club groups to come. Other students who were going to graduate at the end of the year requested to borrow books to read since they would not be there the following school year and wanted to read many of the books your donation and project added to our classroom. \r\n\r\nOver the summer I was able to dig deep into multiple titles that will be offered as book club choices as we start this school year. We will be able to analyze characters and develop claims, look closely at the author's craft in creating the various elements of the story and plot, and develop vocabulary through these books. Having a set of 10 books of one title saves me the time gathering books through multiple library systems and instead allows me to dig deeply into the text and to consider the meaningful learning that can occur through the shared experience of reading a common book.\r\n\r\nThese books will be used and shared by four classrooms of upper elementary students. The titles include a little something for everyone, from books with shorter chapters and more accessible text & vocabulary for students still developing as independent readers to more complex titles offering no shortage of analysis and discussion. The shared experience of reading a common text has been an amazing opportunity to build a community of readers. This book went back and forth between homes and school for the last weeks of school, with multiple students excitedly talking about the story and the connections they had to it- both personally and academically.\r\n\r\nA newer student to join our classroom was very excited to see his Muslim identity reflected in the book \"The Proudest Blue.\" Other books, such as the Katie the Catsitter series, engaged reluctant readers who enjoyed previous similar series. Series have been a wonderfully effective way to engage students who are still learning to see themselves as readers by allowing them to experience a character that pulls them in- and then Book 2 is waiting on the shelves of our classroom library for them.\r\n\r\nUnpacking, labeling, and shelving these books was a delightful and joyful experience for my students.
