I have had many students who have been coming to school without winter clothing, gloves and hats especially. Having waterproof mittens for them has been a life saver. \r\nI have also had many students without coats during the transitional time. This hands‑on moment of discovery made science feel magical and personal, giving students a direct connection to Earth science concepts that can otherwise feel abstract. By physically exploring the inside of a geode, students were able to see how natural processes such as pressure, mineral deposits, and time create something unexpectedly beautiful. This type of tactile learning deepened their understanding and made scientific ideas more concrete and memorable.\r\nThe project also strengthened students' scientific thinking. Before cracking open their geodes, students made predictions about what they might find based on size, weight, and sound—practicing observation, hypothesis formation, and evidence‑based reasoning. After opening them, they compared their predictions with the results and discussed the variations they observed. This process encouraged students to think like geologists, ask meaningful questions, and engage in rich discussions about the forces that shape our planet. The experience helped students see science not as something that lives in a textbook but as a process of curiosity, investigation, and discovery.\r\nBeyond science, the project supported teamwork, patience, and joy in learning. Students helped one another safely crack open their geodes, celebrated each other's surprises, and shared their discoveries with excitement and pride. These moments built community in the classroom and reminded students that learning can be both collaborative and joyful. For many, the geode they uncovered became a treasured keepsake—symbolizing not just the beauty inside the rock, but the confidence, curiosity, and wonder that the project inspired.","fullyFundedDate":1763588680671,"projectUrl":"project/crack-open-curiosity-the-geode-project/9902990/","projectTitle":"Crack-Open Curiosity: The Geode Project","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Perrotta","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7374408_orig.jpg?crop=620,620,x65,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1656262971878","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7374408"},{"teacherId":7374408,"projectId":9973599,"letterContent":"\"Lunar New Year: A Celebration of Culture and Kindness\" gave students a valuable opportunity to learn about traditions that may be different from their own while honoring the cultures represented in our community. By exploring stories, symbols, and celebrations connected to the Lunar New Year, students gained a deeper appreciation for the diversity that surrounds them every day. This experience helped them understand that culture is something to be proud of and something we can all learn from.\r\nThe celebration also allowed students to see how cultural traditions foster connection, generosity, and hope. Through activities focused on kindness, good fortune, and fresh starts, students learned that many cultures share universal values—even if they express them in different ways. These shared themes helped students build empathy and recognize that despite our differences, we are united by the desire to care for one another and bring positivity into the world.\r\nMost importantly, the experience created moments of joy, belonging, and pride for students who observe the Lunar New Year at home. Being able to share their knowledge and traditions with peers empowered them and strengthened classroom community. For all students, the celebration was a meaningful reminder that when we honor one another's stories and show kindness, we make our classroom a more inclusive and welcoming place for everyone.","fullyFundedDate":1766956792583,"projectUrl":"project/lunar-new-year-a-celebration-of-culture/9973599/","projectTitle":"Lunar New Year: a Celebration of Culture and Kindness","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Perrotta","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7374408_orig.jpg?crop=620,620,x65,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1656262971878","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7374408"},{"teacherId":7374408,"projectId":9902754,"letterContent":"We were excited to offer students a chance to become real-life detectives in Mystery Makers, a fun and engaging forensics experience designed just for kids!\r\nDuring this adventure, students worked together to solve a mystery using kid‑friendly science tools and techniques.
