I am writing to thank you profusely for your support regarding my social work practice with \"The Littles.\" My transition from school social work with teenagers, to working with elementary-aged kids was a big one. Having these tools and resources has made all the difference.\r\n\r\nFrom emotion wheels hanging on the wall, to nice pillows on the floor, to games to toys and books, it has been amazing to have these tools readily available. They have allowed me to connect, create a safe space, and assist students with their social, emotional, and mental well-being.\r\n\r\nIt also makes a huge difference for kids who come from very little to have a variety of new, nice things to learn with (especially things not connected to screens). For example, I have learned that many of my students do not know how to play board games. They open a game, look at me, look at the pieces, then look back at me, having absolutely no idea what to do with it. Playing a simple game that many of us grew up playing is a mystery to them. Having the opportunity to learn not only the game, but also how to play with others—and all the skills that come along with that—is invaluable. It has taken some time, but they love it!","fullyFundedDate":1761946224724,"projectUrl":"project/the-littles/9524061/","projectTitle":"The Littles!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Wohlers","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9906244_orig.jpg?crop=648,648,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1754018892406","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9906244"},{"teacherId":9468568,"projectId":9753733,"letterContent":"I want to express my deepest gratitude for your donations. The ability to create engaging and lasting materials for my students changes the quality of our therapy sessions greatly!\r\n\r\nWith the laminating sheets and Velcro,I have been able to create interactive book companions to get my students excited about literacy. They love having the opportunity to be involved in the telling of a story, and it allows me to assess student understanding nonverbally. I can also pair the visuals with those on student communication devices, which increases their independent use of AAC during our sessions.\r\n\r\nI love seeing student faces light up when they can show what they know and be a driver in their own learning! With the Hot Wheels, student have learned to read instructions for assembly--an authentic use of their reading and use of visuals/diagrams skills. The first rock project we did was creating a welcoming rocks basket. Students in grades 2-4 who participated in a social skills group created rocks that would be stored in the social work office and used to help welcome new students to our school. The students in the small group thought about pictures or words that would be welcoming to a new student visiting the school social work office for the first time. Each student chose a different message or art work. Some painted hearts, others painted people being kind to one another. It was a very successful project. I plan to use the art supplies for many more similar projects in the near future. I greatly appreciate having the materials to do something so creative.\r\n\r\nTypically, I would be spending time in thrift stores or looking for art supplies on sale or clearance to use with my students. I greatly appreciated the supplies just getting delivered straight to my office.
