The dry erase markers and dry erase pocket sleeves have been invaluable for student group work. Our new-to-the-country students use 5×7 index cards to keep track of math vocabulary in English, Thai, and Lao, which has been especially helpful for their learning.\r\nI especially appreciate the magnetic unit circle whiteboard. It has made it easier for students to present their thinking more often and more clearly. Our communication around the topic became more consistent and repeatable. While we can't attribute our success entirely to the magnetic whiteboard, many students developed a strong understanding of the unit circle and special angles.\r\nI'm also looking forward to using the button maker to create prizes for our New Year math contest. We'll be using the roll of paper when we begin periodic functions, giving students a hands-on introduction to the topic.\r\nI've shared news of the donations with our students, and they are amazed by your generosity. Thank you so much for equipping our classroom and supporting our learners.","fullyFundedDate":1758653625189,"projectUrl":"project/student-centered-algebra-room/9541439/","projectTitle":"Student-Centered Algebra Room","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Park","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9214397"},{"teacherId":7883460,"projectId":9032073,"letterContent":"These students have been really enjoying their flexible seating this year. We've really been able to help students increase their focus and have the resources to be able to be able to learn during the school day. All of our curriculum and lessons have gone much smoother and with less interruptions due to the students ability to focus. We've loved all of the different types of options as well instead of just one type or two. We are really grateful to have had these this year. Reading looks a little different in my classroom. I teach Elementary Science. However, we use books in a few ways: \r\n\r\nFirst, I have books available for kids who finish projects and are waiting for their friends to finish. Because all kids work at different paces and complete projects in different ways, they all finish at different times. Having interesting books for students to read when they are done is a lifesaver in the classroom.\r\n\r\nWe also use books as a jumpstart to a unit, or as a tie-in to a unit. These are usually read to the students by me. The easiest way to incorporate the books that were donated is to use them as an introduction to a STEM/STEAM project. Hmong folktales are great ways to begin a STEM project. Kids can design solutions to problems in the stories. Hmong culture can be used to start them thinking about a design project with a Hmong focus.\r\n\r\nHowever the books are used, it is important for my students to see characters in books that look like them and that share traditions and culture. It is important for them to know that they are uniquely special and their history is now part of all of our histories. The kids in my class have been thrilled to have these books to peruse. Thank you so much for your part in this project.","fullyFundedDate":1730380809921,"projectUrl":"project/my-culture-in-my-classroom/8562557/","projectTitle":"My Culture in My Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Johansen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp754783_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1691006797676","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/laura-ferguson"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_33916","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":2503,"numTeachers":96,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":98,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":0,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"26.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":69.0,"schoolId":33916,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Hmong College Preparatory Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Hmong College Preparatory Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/minnesota/minnesota-department-of-education/hmong-academy/33916"}
