After my first year of teaching, I discovered that there were certain school supplies that my students needed that I was not able to provide. I discovered that my student's learning would flourish with an in depth calendar math activity kit, their learning time would be increased with a quality pencil sharpener, and their creativity would bloom with colorful crayons. Every student should feel like their classroom is a safe place to learn and create. Having a math calendar will improve our morning meetings and allow students to apply their math to every day situations. We will use the calendar math kit to practice how to read a calendar, practice tens and ones places using the days we've been in school, and practice addition and subtraction on a tens chart. My students have struggled with having sharpened pencils as well. Whenever students are asked to take out a pencil, several struggle to find a pencil that is sharp, and we have to take a lot of extra time away from class to sharpen pencils. Having an electric school pencil sharpener in the classroom will decrease time spent looking for pencils, decrease the amount of times the class loses focus, and increase overall learning time. Finally, my students need a class pack of crayons. My students need to have the freedom to use any color they need in their work. Having a class pack will ensure that students are never searching for the colors they need.
