Summer school has been a blast so far. We are so thankful that we can do hands on labs during classes. The labs have been such a welcome break from paper and pencil learning.\r\n\r\nHere are a few highlights from the labs we have done so far. \r\n\r\nNatural Selection Lab: I did a bit of modifying; I do believe the addition of going outside to create moths was a hit. Students had fun creating moths that would blend in with the environment outside of the school. Because we are expecting a heatwave, I modified this to print outs this session.\r\n\r\nScientific Discovery and Problem Solving: This one has been by far the biggest hit! Students are enjoying solving unknown chemicals by \"playing around\" with chemical indicators.\r\n\r\nRespiration Lab: This is another big win with students. This one is allowing students to work in pairs, most often with a student from another school:). Students are learning that the air we breathe is not just oxygen and is filled with carbon dioxide and other gasses. This has brought on some great conversations about building and fresh air sources.\r\n\r\nAlong with these labs, we have also been doing labs that were also funded by donors: density cubes and the black boxes. I just love that labs can be done over and over with new students.\r\n\r\nAs we head into session two of summer school, we will continue to utilize these labs and will add in the other labs that were also funded-blood smear and first aid blood born lab.","fullyFundedDate":1778019084759,"projectUrl":"project/summer-school-science-labs/10208045/","projectTitle":"Summer School Science Labs!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Beal","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp182857_orig.jpg?crop=480,480,x0,y59&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1766073687331","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-beal"},{"teacherId":182857,"projectId":9965948,"letterContent":"We have been using the science lab materials that you funded for us! We appreciate your patience; we had to move our students to temporary online; we are all back in person now.\r\n\r\nWe recently held a session where students engaged in the black boxes, always fun! Students seemed to really enjoy trying to make inferences about what designs are inside the close system. We used this activity to move into the density cube lab. Students made inferences about items that would float or sink in water. This led to great classroom conversations around what is best to build with or use in different situations.\r\n\r\nThis coming weekend we will be utilizing even more of the labs that were funded! Once we get a chance to do a few more labs, I will share classroom photos with you.","fullyFundedDate":1768614368195,"projectUrl":"project/earth-and-space-exploration-activities/9965948/","projectTitle":"Earth and Space Exploration Activities","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Beal","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp182857_orig.jpg?crop=480,480,x0,y59&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1766073687331","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-beal"},{"teacherId":10035934,"projectId":9369047,"letterContent":"The second week of school marked a transformative moment when students fully immersed themselves in our serene space, unlocking profound connections to inner peace and tackling complex issues with renewed clarity. Many students shared their inspiring stories of how the space helped them overcome anxiety and navigate the challenging climate of their environment. As they delved into intricate concerns, they discovered empowering solutions. When three administrators and staff members visited the room, they were captivated by its warmth, exclaiming it felt like home, a sanctuary they were reluctant to leave. Their enthusiasm was palpable, and they eagerly requested that I design their offices and other spaces in the building, further solidifying the space's profound impact.","fullyFundedDate":1750774639244,"projectUrl":"project/calming-space/9369047/","projectTitle":"Calming Space","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Lloyd","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10035934"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_75219","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":770,"numTeachers":82,"percentFrplEligible":72,"percentAsian":20,"percentBlack":42,"percentWhite":7,"percentIndigenous":2,"percentLatinx":21,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":5,"gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"9.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":75.9,"schoolId":75219,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Camden High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Camden High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/minnesota/minneapolis-public-schools/henry-high-school/75219"}
