Our secondary students do not have an art class, and this helps give students a creative outlet that they would not have otherwise. \r\n Students enjoy coming in and working on the diamond art kits, as they are a huge hit right now! Some students have worked on making quite a collection! The loom making is another popular item right now, which is fun to watch as it is a classic that many of us adults remember doing in our childhood! \r\n Some students are learning new skills, like embroidery and some beading techniques for bracelet making, and many other arts and crafts skills! They look forward to coming in, relaxing, and being creative, and it is nice to see kids in a different setting than in their core academic classes. \r\n Thank you again; your donation means so much to us!","fullyFundedDate":1777060827447,"projectUrl":"project/gettin-crafty-in-posen/10131881/","projectTitle":"Gettin' Crafty in Posen!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. McCallum","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1984835_orig.jpg?crop=956,956,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1772649329084","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-kieliszewski"},{"teacherId":1984835,"projectId":10131136,"letterContent":"Last spring and this fall my students have had the opportunity to use several of the math manipulatives that were able to be ordered through this project. Research shows that we can make mathematics meaningful by making math lessons hands-on, as well as letting students collect their own data to use within the lessons and assignments. \r\n We had particular fun using the new timers to see how long students were able to stand on one foot with their eyes closed, as well as measuring heart rates before and after jumping jacks. We also used the tape measures to measure students' heights to compare to arm span and determine if there was a correlation or not. \r\n This fall, we went outside to measure shadows of tall objects (light poles, flag poles, buildings, etc.), the height of a student, as well as his or her shadow, to use proportions to determine the height of the taller object. This lets students practice measuring, working together as a group, as well as using their math skills and problem-solving. \r\n Algebra Tiles have been used often to help students make connections and make the abstract idea of algebra more concrete and understandable. They are a useful tool to show students \"why\" algebra works and why we make the moves we make on paper. \r\n Again, I thank you for your donation to this project, and my students thank you!
