My students were so excited to see all of the new art supplies arrive in our classroom. Having new, colorful materials immediately sparked their curiosity and made them want to start creating.\r\n\r\nWe are using these supplies to explore how something as simple as a dot can grow into an amazing piece of artwork. Students are experimenting with color, pattern, repetition, layering, and their own creative ideas. I especially love seeing how differently each student approaches the same materials.\r\n\r\nNext, we will continue experimenting with these techniques while students begin creating more independent pieces and developing their own artistic styles. When students first saw the yarn and tools, their excitement was immediate. Many couldn't wait to choose colors and start learning, and even students who are usually hesitant to try something new jumped in. Crochet quickly became a calming routine that students use to relax, focus, and reset during stressful moments.\r\n\r\nThe impact has been so strong that when the new semester began, incoming students who had heard about the project immediately asked if we would be starting crochet with them. Students take pride in their progress and often help each other learn, creating a supportive and encouraging classroom community. The repetitive motion helps them slow down, manage frustration, and experience success one stitch at a time.\r\n\r\nNext, students will continue building their skills and creating small projects while using crochet as a lifelong strategy for managing stress and improving focus.
