Social studies and science can be confusing subjects for fourth grade students. There are many new and complicated concepts and vocabulary words. BrainPop gave my students more in depth understanding of those new concepts, and many more!\r\n\r\nWhile we were learning about earth science with hand-on activities, BrainPop helped us understand the concepts more clearly. BrainPop explained why we have volcanoes and earthquakes by viewing the video on plate tectonics. We also saw the reasons for landslides with the words and pictures of Tim and Moby. In social studies, we delved into the Constitution and learned about the Bill of Rights, the Civil Rights Movement, and so much more!\r\n\r\nBrainPop has truly made a positive impact in our learning this year. So it was extra special that we were given this prize from the Detroit Lions, because this year is unlike any other year that I've taught. The beginning of the year was long, as we tried to navigate the learning styles and learning challenges of having two grades learning at the same time. It was so rewarding and beneficial, once all the moving parts fell into place. I might never want to teach another way ever. It is so fun to watch the third graders learning from the fourth graders and fun to watch the fourth graders guide and mentor the third graders. \r\n\r\nWinning this award, then means so much more than winning this, say, five years ago, during covid. For this classroom to be benefiting the best for both grades, they need to be independent and comfortable. That's why the nice chair, the reading lamps, the digital clock and cooling fan, all help the classroom have the independence and comfort they desire. We are heading into the last part of the school year and we love all the great things the project provided for us.
