All of our students have diverse needs and the list of supplies provided will give them an opportunity to learn and develop skills in reading, writing and mathematics through the use of various materials. The dry erase markers and pencils will allow students to practice writing letters, numbers, high frequency words and their name. The glue sticks will be used to paste letters with matching beginning sounds and to glue picture and rhyming sorts. They will also allow students to make crafts for the holidays and for subject areas such as science when we learn about plants and life cycles.
The composition notebooks will be used to help enhance students literacy skills daily. Students will practice writing and drawing about the setting and characters of a story. They will write about their favorite part of the story. They will practice writing word families and digraphs in their notebooks along with sentences. They will also write about living and nonliving things and practice math facts in their notebooks.
The flash cards will be used to help students print and identify their sight words. Lastly, the student folders and chair covers will allow the students to keep their materials in their own personal space where it will be germ free from others and in a safe place that students will often refer to.
