Supplemental books like \"Boy: Tales of Childhood\" help students connect their reading to the ideas and topics in our units. These skills support all readers, including students who are learning English, by giving them more than one way to make meaning.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom takes many forms. I read aloud so students can hear fluent reading and enjoy a story together. Students also read with partners or independently, talk about what they notice, and mark favorite passages or questions with sticky notes. During discussions, they share predictions, explain their thinking, and listen to classmates' ideas.
