These new books have allowed us to explicitly teach and practice important literacy skills such as decoding, fluency, and comprehension strategies like making predictions, asking questions, and identifying the main idea. For many of my students—especially English learners—having access to engaging and appropriately leveled texts gives them the opportunity to build vocabulary and confidence while making connections to the stories we read.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is an active and collaborative experience. Students participate in partner reading, small group discussions, and independent reading time where they can explore books that interest them. You would see students turning and talking, using sentence starters to share their thinking, and practicing newly learned phonics patterns as they read. These routines help create a supportive environment where all students feel comfortable taking risks and growing as readers.\r\n\r\nSeveral students have shown a noticeable increase in both excitement and confidence when it comes to reading. Some who were previously hesitant are now eager to pick up books and share their ideas with classmates. Others are especially enjoying seeing themselves reflected in the characters and stories, which has made reading more meaningful and engaging for them. Your support has truly made a difference in fostering a love of reading and helping my students see themselves as capable, successful readers.","fullyFundedDate":1767911542265,"projectUrl":"project/read-all-about-it/9906578/","projectTitle":"Read All About It!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Rutowicz","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10041752"},{"teacherId":6540267,"projectId":9619561,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of our classroom project. Because of your kindness, my third grade students now have access to a wonderful collection of new books. These books have already made a meaningful impact on our learning. Several of them were used as mentor texts during our narrative nonfiction unit, where students explored the lives of inspirational people. They were fascinated by these stories and loved learning how determination, courage, and creativity can shape someone's life.\r\n\r\nMany of the books have also become valuable tools during our read-aloud time. We've used them to talk about character traits and to guide thoughtful conversations that support our social-emotional learning. These discussions have helped students reflect on kindness, perseverance, and empathy while connecting those ideas to their own experiences.\r\n\r\nIn addition, these books have been added to our classroom library, where students can return to them again and again simply for the joy of reading. It has been wonderful to see students eagerly choosing these titles during independent reading time.
