These books will engage and motivate my young readers. Second graders love to share about themselves and get so excited when they are able to relate to the material. Reluctant readers often have just not yet found books to pique their interest. When they find books that they enjoy, it will motivate them to read more and as a result, they will grow as readers. While books are often described as windows to the world, they should be mirrors too. All children deserve to see themselves reflected within the books in their classroom library. This could mean seeing a character who looks like them, has a similar family dynamic, or has faced similar struggles. These books can serve to instill a love of reading or inspire them to dream big and change the world.
