This crucial tool has brightened and brought to life our student collaborative work and our crucial notebooks in a very meaningful way. All of this work has culminated in a meaningful and accessible Biology notebook full of our learning this year which our students are taking home this weekend to study for the Biology MCAS exam this coming week on June 2 and June 3rd. \r\n\r\nAs you can imagine, the challenging course of Biology is even more so for my students with moderate disabilities who are expected to pass the same District Biology exams and MA State MCAS exam as general education students. Many of these students have not been taught how to take notes and utilize notebooks to capture thinking and summarize important information in the course materials. It can be completely overwhelming for them. However, step by step, with engaging, thoughtful group collaboration, we have been able to work well together to depend our knowledge and understanding of Biology concepts which will benefit them not only for these exam requirements, but for the deeper and most important lifelong learning your gift has helped them experience this year. \r\n\r\nThey now each have their own notebook full of our group thinking and sense making to support them as they prepare for these final weeks of difficult exams. Most importantly, they can reflect on all the hard work they did this year and this finished, impressive product now knowing they have new skills. They can do it! They can be successful! I have heard their own acknowledgement of their \"completely full\" notebooks and how proud they are of them. \r\n\r\nAs a teacher, it is very heartwarming to feel community support in this often thankless work. (The added bonus of discarding outdated materials and extra packaging is also opening up a ton of space in the cabinets!)\r\n\r\nThe addition of 10 loaner laptop chargers is keeping students in class and engaged! Rather than sending students on an adventure two floors down from my classroom, students are able to grab a loaner charger and get right to work.
