This thoughtful alignment created a unified and engaging experience for our Donovan dragon students, supporting both academic and emotional development.\r\n The Train Your Dragon books are specifically designed to teach Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) skills in a child-friendly, relatable way. Topics include: managing anger and frustration, building self-confidence, practicing patience and empathy, coping with anxiety and fears. By embedding these stories into the BRYT program, students are able to develop emotional literacy in a format that feels fun and non-threatening.\r\n The BRYT program focuses on helping students transition back to school after emotional or behavioral challenges. The dragon books offer clear, accessible narratives to discuss complex feelings, provide positive behavior models without being preachy, and encourage reflection and discussion in therapeutic or classroom settings. This makes them ideal tools for our Donovan social workers, counselors, and our teachers working within the BRYT framework.\r\n Since our school mascot is a dragon, using Train Your Dragon books reinforces a sense of pride and community. Students can see the dragon character as a version of our own school mascot. It has become easier to tie SEL lessons to school-wide behavior expectations. We have used the mascot in assemblies, posters, and reward systems to reinforce themes from the books. This has strengthened our school culture and promoted consistent messaging across grade levels.\r\n Adding the Train Your Dragon series to our BRYT program—especially with our dragon mascot—created a powerful synergy between emotional development, school identity, and student engagement. The books have become more than just stories; they have evolved into tools for growth, healing, and connection for our Donovan Dragon students! The students were so thrilled when I opened the box they began clapping. They had been asking for magnetic blocks all year.\r\nThe magnetic blocks have supported early finishers, reluctant learners, and fostered communication, teamwork, and creativity. Sometimes a few of my students enter the classroom heavy with emotional issues. I have found offering the magnetic blocks helps students to engage in building, sort through their emotions, and typically they end up seeking out a peer or me as they want to show what they created. The early finishers typically prefer to build with an open ended material. They magnetic blocks are open ended, offer endless ways to build structures and students often start asking questions as to why they work. We have researched how magnets work and experimented with the magnetic blocks to test strength. The magnetic blocks also provide opportunities for groups of students to work together, promote language, teamwork, and creativity. When structures fail students are willing to stay engaged and find workable solutions which foster perseverance. The magnetic blocks are used several times a week and have provided many learning opportunities for both individuals and for small groups.\r\nThank you for your donation and support.","fullyFundedDate":1744032931888,"projectUrl":"project/magnetic-moments-to-foster-creativity-an/9198786/","projectTitle":"Magnetic Moments to Foster Creativity and Learning!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. R","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7642789_orig.jpg?crop=2007,2007,x32,y848&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723750151858","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7642789"},{"teacherId":7642789,"projectId":9057083,"letterContent":"Thank you for your support of Building Bridges of Communication project. Having the offline translator available for us to utilize is a game changer. While images are helpful, they do not often convey third tier vocabulary that is used in day to day science classes. The translator has changed that as I can speak in to one and the student can understand what I said in their first language. They can ask a question and I can answer and because of the translator we all understand each other! Often the computer translator add-on does not work due to building internet connectivity issues.
