Before, our books were stored in bins and stacked in ways that made it hard for students to fully see and access everything we had. Now, the shelves beautifully display our books, making it easier for students to browse, discover new titles, and take ownership of their reading choices. One special moment that stood out was when students first saw the new setup they immediately gravitated toward the library area, excitedly pointing out books they hadn't noticed before and eagerly settling in to read.\r\n\r\nOur classroom library has quickly become one of the most loved spaces in the room. Students are spending more time reading independently and recommending books to one another. The organization and accessibility of the shelves have also helped students build independence, as they can easily find and return books on their own. It has created a calm, inviting environment that encourages a genuine love of reading and exploration.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, students will continue to use the library during independent reading, partner work, and research projects. We are beginning a new unit where students will select \"just right\" books and track their reading progress, and these shelves are making that process so much smoother. We are also working on building our classroom community through book talks and recommendations, allowing students to share their favorite reads with their peers. Thank you for helping us create a space where students feel inspired, engaged, and excited to read every day!","fullyFundedDate":1756432249394,"projectUrl":"project/shelving-units-for-a-bare-classroom/9430330/","projectTitle":"Shelving Units For A Bare Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Hirschberger","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10007837_orig.jpg?crop=464,464,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1756761970560","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10007837"},{"teacherId":9700002,"projectId":9727147,"letterContent":"We thank you for your generosity and support. This rug brings happiness and joy into my classroom. \r\n\r\nThis rug was the first thing my students noticed when they came into my classroom this year and they all have been taking turns enjoying it in their new 3rd grade classroom. It is a very inviting place for students and I am so thankful to have it in my classroom. \r\n\r\nI appreciate the donation to my classroom so much and I will be forever greatful for this donation to make my students feel safe and welcomed into my classroom space. Having this Donors Choose project funded was the best feeling! 😊 When the supplies arrived, my students were absolutely over the moon. Seeing their faces light up as they unpacked and explored the (new books and map it paddles) was truly unforgettable.\r\n\r\nStudents will have access to these books during our literacy block. They will be able to read them during independent reading time. I am also exploring reading them to the class at the end of the day. It is so nice to have chapter books that kindergarten students can read independently. \r\n\r\nThe Map it paddles will be used during small group instruction as well at intervention time. This is going to help students understand and see that words are made up of different sounds. Its really nice that they are also able to write the words out. \r\nAgain, THANK YOU so much for the materials.
