Because of you, my students now have access to materials that are already transforming our therapy space into a more engaging, organized, and supportive environment for communication.\r\n\r\nWe have been using the new markers, crayons, glue sticks, and rug during hands-on craft activities that target functional communication skills. Many of my students are nonverbal, so these activities give them meaningful opportunities to communicate through gestures, AAC devices, and choice-making. One moment that stood out was during a craft activity when a student used their communication system to request specific colors and materials independently. It was such an exciting moment to see them take initiative and actively participate.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new materials, they were immediately drawn to them. The bright markers and crayons sparked so much excitement, and the cozy rug created a welcoming space for group activities. Even students who are typically hesitant to engage were eager to sit down, explore, and participate. The wheeling cart and storage bins have also helped keep everything organized and accessible, which allows sessions to run more smoothly and keeps students focused.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, we will continue using these materials to build communication through structured and creative activities. Our next steps include increasing opportunities for students to make choices, request items, and expand their communication during crafts and group lessons. We are also working on helping students generalize these skills across different settings and communication partners.\r\n\r\nThank you again for making such a meaningful impact in our classroom. Your support is helping my students grow in confidence and find their voices in ways that are truly inspiring.","fullyFundedDate":1769177262611,"projectUrl":"project/finding-our-voice/9787507/","projectTitle":"Finding Our Voice","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Brent","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9159252"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_60621","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":410,"numTeachers":32,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":8,"percentWhite":5,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":80,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"1 - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"12.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":73.5,"schoolId":60621,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Robert L Ford Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Robert L Ford Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/massachusetts/lynn-public-school-district/robert-l-ford-elementary-school/60621"}
