As a first year teacher I am not provided with any rugs in my classroom. A large class community rug and a smaller reading rug will greatly benefit my group of students. At the second grade level, many of our lessons are whole group. A rug in the classroom allows students to move freely from their desks and have a comfortable space where they are able to move and get their wiggles out so they can be ready to learn. My goal as a teacher is to not only help students learn, but to help them love learning. Flexible seating lets children move about the classroom to find the seating that will best help them learn. Students feel independent, responsible, and are more engaged in their work when they are able to choose their own good seating choice.
