Many immediately began exploring the different tools, and it was amazing to see how quickly they connected with items that helped them feel calm, focused, and ready to learn. Several students who typically struggle with attention, transitions, or self-regulation were able to participate more successfully in classroom activities and group discussions with the support of these materials.\r\n\r\nWe are currently using the sensory items throughout the school day during independent work, small-group instruction, sensory breaks, and emotional regulation activities. One especially meaningful moment was watching a student who often becomes overwhelmed during academic tasks use a calming sensory tool to regulate emotions and successfully complete an assignment independently. It was a huge confidence boost and showed just how important these resources are for supporting student success.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, students will continue learning how to appropriately use the sensory materials as part of our classroom routines and self-regulation strategies. The pillows, canopy, book stands, and books have helped us create a calm and welcoming corner where students can take a moment to breathe, read quietly, and practice self-regulation skills. This space has already become a special part of our classroom community.\r\nWhen my students first saw the new materials, they were amazed and very curious. They loved the cozy pillows and the canopy, and many of them immediately wanted to sit down and explore the books. Several students told me it felt like a \"peaceful reading place.\" It was wonderful to see their excitement and how quickly they understood that this corner is a safe space where they can calm their bodies and minds.\r\nMoving forward, we will continue using this area during our daily classroom routines to support social-emotional learning. I knew that they would make an impact on our students but I wasn't sure how much. These items were great for students to practice multiple different skills, for example students have been able to practices kicking, under hand swing, over hand swing, and many more. Students have found that the light weight ball has been easier to work with and practice their skills. \r\n\r\nMore recently students have been able to use it on a adaptive level as well. They have been able to manipulate the ball and use the skills. I have seen many skills grow when using this equipment and I am excited to continue using it moving forward.
