My art teacher in elementary school sparked my love of art and learning and is the reason why I make art today. I have 500 students, and I would like to teach them kindness and empathy by using art making as the vehicle. I would love to help social and emotional learning by helping students learn new ways to cope with tough emotions using art therapy. By donating to my project you helped 500 kids learn to love art, art history, and having fun while doing it!\r\n\r\nWhen my second grade students saw that they were creating self portraits using actual canvases, they were ecstatic. \"No one ever lets us use the good materials\" was heard over and over again. By using an actual canvas, students started to learn what painting on great quality materials that last is like. They also used acrylic paint instead of tempera, which is a whole different ( and more expensive) experience. \r\n\r\nSince the students used photocopies of their actual likeness, I cannot show you the entire finished product, just know that their faces are smiling in the photos! The kids really loved all the materials, and had a great time. I also was able to teach skills they will have for life, such as being proud of who they are, proud of their own image and likeness, and proud of what their own identity is, and how being different and unique is what makes us whole. They learned art skills, but also life skills in the process. Thank you so much, we are all grateful for your help!","fullyFundedDate":1736022413736,"projectUrl":"project/new-art-teacher-needs-amazing-supplies/9024348/","projectTitle":"New Art Teacher Needs Amazing Supplies","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Manville","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8963296_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1735682805086","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8963296"},{"teacherId":8963296,"projectId":8992399,"letterContent":"I am the new art teacher at a K-2 art classroom in the middle of the year, so I wasn't the one who bought the supplies! Time to up the game in the fun art room this year! The previous art teacher did not paint much with the kids, and I was able to start some dynamic art projects. We had brand new protective smocks because of your help. We were able to use some fun new supplies to help the kids such as the colors of construction paper that are missing from my stores, new paint palettes and smocks, and more containers to store the art supplies. I have spent hours overhauling the art room and the supplies. The students have lacked any 3D projects, so I was able to introduce Model Magic projects to help such young learners with their dexterity. It was a BIG HIT! They could not BELIEVE that they got to bring them home!\r\n\r\nThe no spill paint containers and palettes helped these very young learners how to use paint correctly, a skill they will be able to use for the rest of their lives!\r\n\r\nAs you can see from the photos the students learned how to create 3D sculptures, how to use armitures ( toothpicks) so that their sculptures had \" skeletons\" to help them stay together, and how to color their sculptures. \r\n\r\nThank you so much, 517 kids are all very grateful for the experience!","fullyFundedDate":1735658689491,"projectUrl":"project/new-art-teacher-vibes/8992399/","projectTitle":"New Art Teacher Vibes","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Manville","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8963296_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1735682805086","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8963296"},{"teacherId":4992529,"projectId":5382981,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generosity in choosing to support this project! Rather than simply being relegated to their hard chairs for 6 hours a day they now have options! They can sit and read in their scoop chairs virtually anywhere in the classroom.
