I am so excited to run book clubs/literature circles this spring with his four very relevant, touching, and engaging books featuring four different members of a track team in each book.\r\nMy goals are many: to put brand-new, high-interest novels into my students' hands that they are excited to read; to provide a mirror into their own lives for some students and a window into different lives for others; and to highlight one of the most impactful authors of his generation, the inimitable Jason Reynolds. I am in a district with growing diversity, and Reynolds' writing can relate to my students of color while expanding the world view for other students. Your generosity made my goal of amplifying black voices come to life.\r\nAdditionally, students will study point of view as a literary concept, and each group will come to discussions with one of the four points of view from their novel. Students need to be able to hear a story from all sides and to consider others' point of view, now more than ever. \r\nYou have already made a difference in my classroom: when I opened the boxes and took out the brightly colored novels, several students recognized the first book of the series and were thrilled to get to read another, others were new to the series but excited to have new books to read. They can't wait to get started.\r\nOnce again, my students and I thank you for your generosity. \r\nWith great appreciation, \r\nLiz Hegarty","fullyFundedDate":1735657769573,"projectUrl":"project/running-great-book-clubs-with-the-trac/8844297/","projectTitle":"\"Running\" Great Book Clubs with the Track Series","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. H.","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-hegarty"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_61989","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":555,"numTeachers":69,"percentFrplEligible":35,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":11,"percentWhite":60,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":20,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"8.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":null,"schoolId":61989,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Dedham Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Dedham Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/massachusetts/dedham-public-schools/dedham-middle-school/61989"}
