Just before Winter Break we were able to really break out our new resources and wow the students loved them! Since we received so many great organizers students are able to take materials when they need them to solve problems. Well labeled and organized bins with things like white board erasers, dice, rulers, calculators makes working in math centers easier and makes the classroom just flow so much better! \r\nWhen the boxes arrived the students were so intrigued and when I showed them how it would help our classroom and how I planned for the tools to be implemented in the daily flow of the class they were so eager to lend ideas and to ask if they could help or be in charge of the different new materials. Since we have been at it for a few weeks now I am happy to report what a success it has been and how it drew the students together and made our classroom community stronger. These texts introduce important literacy and musical skills such as rhyme recognition, phrasing, sequencing, and expressive reading. Students learn to listen carefully, follow patterns, and understand how stories can be told not just with words, but through song and motion. This combination has strengthened their reading fluency, comprehension, and confidence in sharing their voices.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom has become an energetic, collaborative experience. Students gather together to sing, read, and act out stories while discussing what they hear and imagine. The joy and engagement are contagious—especially for students who once felt shy about reading aloud. Now, they eagerly participate, tapping rhythms, echoing phrases, and leading their classmates in song. With the fulfillment of my Donors Choose project last spring, I was able to create a space in my classroom this fall for students to enjoy reading. The bookshelf is a focal point and draws my students in. They love to pick a book and sit and read. They also are loving playing the reading games. The new inference game is a much-requested game to play on game day Friday! My students love to use the book bags on the back of their chairs to access their materials. I personally am using the cart and containers to stay organized. The card stock and lamination pages are being used to make fun reading games.\r\n\r\nMy students were beyond excited when they saw the bookshelf. They couldn't wait to spin the bookshelf around pick a book to read. I am hoping that by starting each group out with students picking a book and quietly reading for 10 minutes before we begin our lesson they will look forward to coming to group and will see reading positively and not negatively. I can honestly say that so far this is the case! As a reward, I have game day Friday where students pick reading games to play. Their faces lit up when I was able to present new games for them to choose from.\r\n\r\nMy next steps are to continue building my space to be a comforting, inviting space. I had to move spaces over the summer, so my new space needs some TLC. I have created a new Donors Choose project to add fun seating to my reading area as well as some items to help keep my space free from distractions. For many of my students, school is their safe haven, and I hope to continue to make my space a spot for students to learn to read, want to read, and in turn, love to read. Thus giving them an escape from some of the tough home lives in which they live.","fullyFundedDate":1746585760140,"projectUrl":"project/a-fun-bookshelf-to-promote-a-love-for-re/9034548/","projectTitle":"A Fun Bookshelf to Promote a Love for Reading","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Clary","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8627406"},{"teacherId":10061066,"projectId":9426506,"letterContent":"As a first-year teacher, I am incredibly grateful for the generosity and support that made this project possible. This is because they have the resources to learn the correct words to use; tissues are for your nose, paper towels clean messes, and sanitizer cleans our hands.\r\nThanks to these supplies and the student's ability to properly use them, we have had a lot less sick children as well.
