Our students are loving 3rd grade so far and are embracing the new challenges and the wealth of responsibilities that come with being a 3rd grader. These are children coming together in an impoverished urban community school and they are all special and come from diverse backgrounds. Some of them are from two-parent households, some of them are homeless. Most of the students come from below poverty single parent households or are raised by grandparents. Funds are tight all around. I try to provide them everything they need for a successful school year but sometimes that can be difficult for me with a single income and 4 children of my own.
