We also received a variety of carving tools that students have been able to use to: carve out holes and the insides of vessels, shape and flatten clay slabs, smooth out edges and corners, and even writing and drawing on the clay. MY 4th graders were really creative with them, and our final sculptures ended up being animals, imitation foods, miniature cups and bowls, and custom figurines for friends and loved ones!\r\n\r\nThese tools will be a vital part of my clay lessons in the future as well, and I am very thankful for the donations that made them possible. The Little Spot of Feelings books and plushies were a huge hit in our K2 classroom. We taught a social emotional lesson plan involving identifying and describing all kinds of different feelings. We also then formed groups according to how we were feeling in the moment, and moved to those designated feeling spots. Then, we got to sit at our tables and color in a Little Spot of... whatever feeling we wanted. It was really interesting to note that some of our friends were feeling one way earlier in the lesson, and towards the end, they were able to regulate and notice that bigger emotions became smaller and they were more content.\r\n\r\nWe also loved using Mia the Weighted Monkey to use as a talking piece. One of our friends suffers from separation anxiety and always arrives late. While sitting in her calming corner, she was asked if she would like to hold Mia. She nodded and smiled and used Mia to help her join her friends and the activity.\r\n\r\nAnother group really enjoyed using the playdoh and placemats.
