It has become a warm, welcoming space where students can feel safe, cared for, and accepted—a place where they can take a moment to breathe, regulate, reset, and prepare themselves to return to learning.\r\n\r\nOur students have truly embraced the new space. They love the cozy sensory area, comfortable seating, calming environment, and the opportunity to choose the supports that work best for them. Some students come in needing a few quiet minutes away from the stimulation and demands of the school day. Others need a safe place to regroup when they are feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or emotionally dysregulated. Sometimes, a student simply needs a caring adult, a comfortable chair, and a space where they know they are welcome.\r\n\r\nOne of the most meaningful parts of this project has been watching students naturally gravitate toward the space and make it their own. Seeing them settle into the cozy area, use the sensory tools, sit quietly in the recliner, or simply take a few moments to decompress has reinforced exactly why this project was so important.\r\n\r\nAs a school nurse, I know that student wellness and learning are deeply connected. A student who is overwhelmed, anxious, uncomfortable, or dysregulated may not be ready to learn in that moment. Sometimes the most important intervention we can offer is a safe environment in which they can pause and regain a sense of calm. Your generosity has given our students that opportunity.\r\n\r\nThis project was also created with neurodiversity and inclusion in mind. Every student experiences the world differently, and our goal was to create an environment that recognizes and respects those differences. We wanted students who experience sensory sensitivities, anxiety, or other challenges to know that there is a place at school where their needs are understood—not judged.\r\n\r\nWhat you helped create is not simply a prettier health office. You helped create a space that communicates to our students: You belong here. You are important. Your needs matter. And there are people here who care about you.\r\n\r\nThat is an extraordinary gift.\r\n\r\nOn behalf of our students and our entire school community, thank you for believing in this project and for helping us create A Sensory-Friendly Wellness Space for Every Learner. We are incredibly grateful, and your generosity will continue to support students for years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1767145629393,"projectUrl":"project/a-sensory-friendly-wellness-space-for-ev/9868015/","projectTitle":"A Sensory-Friendly Wellness Space for Every Learner","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Smith","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10337591_orig.jpg?crop=288,288,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1761936557885","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/nurse-smith"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_62610","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":323,"numTeachers":23,"percentFrplEligible":79,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":52,"percentWhite":3,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":40,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":0,"gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"14.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":62.8,"schoolId":62610,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Boston Day & Evening Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Boston Day & Evening Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/massachusetts/boston-public-schools/boston-day-evening-academy/62610"}
