We have just started our Ukulele Unit about a month ago and they were thrilled to actually transfer what they have learned online to physically playing the Ukulele! Even the students who are normally not fond of music were also very excited and were motivated in this unit and I am very grateful for these opportunities for our diverse learning community. Students have learned how to pluck open-strings on the instrument and were introduced to C, F and A7. Our goal is to be able to play a song about Thanksgiving using at least two chords on our instrument!\r\n\r\nWe were also able to hold a Wellness Wednesday Ukulele day with faculty members after school to get together and enjoy learning the Ukulele to decompress our day. Not only that it gave opportunity to our students but teachers as well! This new technology has allowed me to project lessons more effectively, run small-group activities with digital resources, and give students access to online tools that help them build confidence and independence.\r\n\r\nThis project has allowed us to accomplish lessons that were previously difficult to teach without technology. My students are now creating digital presentations, practicing typing skills, and collaborating on projects in ways that prepare them for the future.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to use the laptop for student-led research projects — each group will explore a topic, create a digital presentation, and share their learning with the class. By rewarding desired behaviors with small treats from the treasure box, I was able to effectively encourage students to repeat positive actions. I also used the treasure box as a tool to manage classroom behavior by providing immediate positive feedback and reward for good choices.\r\n Thanks to your donations, there were many ways in which students were able to earn a treasure from the treasure box. In some instances students will earn tickets throughout the week while we are learning. Each time they earn a ticket, students write their name on it and put it in our Classroom Lottery Box. Every week , I pull out 5 names that get to go to the treasure box. Sometimes students earn a trip to the treasure box for great choices and for continued participation in class.
