My ESOL students in primary are mostly just learning how to read. It is important that they acquire the foundational skills in reading through direct phonics instruction that will help them decode and eventually become an independent reader. The materials listed will be utilized in phonics instruction both in small group and whole group. The materials will be used as well in make-and-take activities for parents so they can work on the target skills at home. Students will be building words using magnetic letters; they will also sort pictures according to initial, medial, and ending sounds. The projectors will be used to model paper-based activities to them. The Chromebooks will be of great help in accessing educational websites such as Raz Kids, Imagine Learning, Waterford, Rosetta Stone, and the like since what we are currently using are the old desktops at our school library. These desktops are very slow and are not updated.
