The books that I have selected will help my English Language Learners learn to read using easy-to-use practice activities, review, and applications. Activities will help my students develop spelling (encoding), recognize words in context, and use phonics in word-building and personal writing. It also provides a direct model for integrating phonics and reading through reading activities. My students will work with real-world reading and writing applications and put decoding strategies to work. By combining phonics skills with vocabulary, comprehension, and critical thinking, my students will be well on their way to developing reading fluency.
