The moment the box arrived, excitement filled the room—students immediately began brainstorming what they could design, engrave, and build. For many of them, this was the first time they could see their digital designs transformed into a tangible product right before their eyes.\r\n\r\nOne of the first projects we tackled was a personalized keychain design challenge. Students sketched their ideas in CAD software, prepared their files, and then watched as the laser brought their designs to reality. Seeing their names, logos, and custom artwork etched into the material sparked an energy in the classroom that can't be replicated with traditional assignments. Several students proudly held up their projects and said, \"This is something I actually made—I can't wait to show my family.\" Moments like these highlight how powerful hands-on learning can be.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, these resources will play a key role in larger projects, such as custom awards, classroom signage, and even functional prototypes that combine 3D printing with laser-cut elements. My students are now not only learning engineering design principles but also experiencing how their work could transfer into real-world careers in design, engineering, and manufacturing.\r\n\r\nYour contribution has opened the door for authentic learning experiences that build creativity, confidence, and technical skills. On behalf of my students and myself, thank you for believing in their potential and helping them take their first steps as future engineers.","fullyFundedDate":1746449260219,"projectUrl":"project/bringing-ideas-to-life-laser-engraving/9219771/","projectTitle":"Bringing Ideas to Life: Laser Engraving Materials for Future Engineers","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Kint","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp5005314_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1513355966788","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mr-kint"},{"teacherId":5005314,"projectId":8893137,"letterContent":"I want to extend my deepest gratitude for your support in funding our 3D printing filament project. Thanks to your generosity, my students have been able to bring their digital designs to life, transforming their CAD models into physical objects they can take home. This hands-on experience has enhanced their learning in ways that traditional methods simply cannot. By allowing students to prototype their ideas and see real-world applications of engineering and design, the 3D printer has become one of the most exciting tools in our classroom.\r\n\r\nThe ability to print their creations has sparked incredible enthusiasm among my students. They love experimenting with different designs, refining their models, and seeing their ideas materialize. Some students who were initially hesitant about CAD modeling are now fully engaged because they know their work can result in a tangible product. One student, in particular, struggled with confidence in his design skills but became incredibly motivated once he successfully printed his first project. Seeing his work come to life gave him a new sense of pride and ownership in his learning.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has not only provided materials but has also fueled curiosity, creativity, and a deeper understanding of engineering principles. The LED mini projector has transformed the way I facilitate small group instruction, allowing me to model concepts directly from my computer screen. This has been particularly valuable for students who need extra guidance, as I can now provide real-time demonstrations, walk through complex problems step by step, and adapt lessons to meet their individual needs. The ability to visually reinforce key concepts has not only enhanced comprehension but has also boosted student engagement, making learning more interactive and accessible.\r\n\r\nStudents are especially excited about how this technology allows them to see examples clearly without having to crowd around a single screen. Those who need extra practice can follow along more easily, and it has fostered a more collaborative learning environment. I've noticed that some students who were previously hesitant to ask for help are now more willing to engage because they can visually track the process at their own pace. This tool has truly made a difference in helping all my students build confidence in their skills, and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to bring this resource into my classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1729647924446,"projectUrl":"project/mini-projector-to-project-students-love/8893266/","projectTitle":"Mini Projector to Project Students' Love for Technology and Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Kint","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp5005314_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1513355966788","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mr-kint"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_64619","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1181,"numTeachers":63,"percentFrplEligible":36,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":15,"percentWhite":57,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":17,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"18.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":64.5,"schoolId":64619,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Walkersville High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Walkersville High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/maryland/frederick-county-public-school-district/walkersville-high-school/64619"}
