We received what is now lovingly known as \"the floor table\" and our flexible seating options increased ten fold. We use the table often, to sit at while reading, writing, and learning in so many ways. We also received two bookshelves which held our Kindergarten library. We loved having height appropriate access to books throughout the school year. Thank you so much for being a consistent presence in our classroom. Children as young as 2 years old love to mark up things, whether it's walls, floors, paper, or boards. It is an adult's response to the markings that can make all the difference in the world. It is for this reason that I requested journals, pencils, and the dry erase dots. Students have the freedom to express themselves throughout our classroom. The dry erase dots were cut in half to accommodate the smaller sized desks. They serve as a writing platform and are also used as place settings for our shaving cream and Play Doh fun. We also received the traffic cones which are used to communicate readiness. Students who need assistance use either a pink or orange cone to signal that they need help. Students who have completed a task or want feedback on their work, use the green or blue cones. We will also use the cones for indoor recess during inclement weather. The primary pencils have also greatly impacted student writing. In September only 17% of our class were capable of writing their name. Just one month later, 89% of the students are writing their name. There are a few that still require some scaffolding; however, I am certain by the end of the year all of the students will be able to write their names, some basic sight words, and perhaps some invented spelling of words. \r\n\r\nWe also requested primary journals for students to express themselves by drawing and writing. We weren't able to receive that type of journal, but we were able to order chair pockets as a replacement. They have been a blessing. As I mentioned before we have small tables for student desks and without adequate storage space the chair pockets allow the students to store their pencil cases, (from another donor) crayons, and paperwork until the end of the day-helping to keep our creative space free of clutter.\r\n\r\nWe cannot begin to express how your donation has helped our classroom and students and we are sincerely grateful. Thank you.","fullyFundedDate":1756000053558,"projectUrl":"project/curating-creative-spaces/9446646/","projectTitle":"Curating Creative Spaces","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. R Taylor","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8582156_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1700391276118","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/trtaylor"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_64413","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":235,"numTeachers":21,"percentFrplEligible":85,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":41,"percentWhite":16,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":34,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"11.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":48.6,"schoolId":64413,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Margaret Brent Elementary School 53 on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Margaret Brent Elementary School 53","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/maryland/baltimore-city-public-school-district/margaret-brent-elementary-school-53/64413"}
