There was an immediate buzz of creativity as they began chatting about what they wanted to make first—bracelets, keychains, 3D designs, and personalized vinyl projects with the Cricut. It was incredible to witness them dive right in, collaborating, helping each other, and sharing ideas with so much enthusiasm. The room was filled with laughter, curiosity, and a genuine sense of pride as they brought their visions to life. Your donation is even more impactful months later due to funding cuts to education made by the current presidential administration and their increased surveillance of what information is shared in the classroom. Now, more than ever, it is critical that we provide students access to information that will help them make more informed decisions and become more empathetic individuals.\r\n\r\nMy students have continually showed me the books that you have helped fundraise for, asking me questions about the information or seeking clarity about how the books contradict misinformation that they have heard in the media. They are also appreciative of the opportunity to be trusted with knowledge. As they refine their practice, the indirect impact on students is clear. Students are engaging more deeply, participating in richer discussions, and producing higher-quality work across classrooms.\r\n\r\nThanks to your support, we are meeting our learning goals ahead of schedule. Thus, they essentially create physical prototypes of their concepts before finalizing them. 3D printing allows for the quick creation of physical models, enabling students to rapidly test and iterate on their designs.\r\nOnce printed, students can examine the prototypes to identify flaws in their design and make adjustments before printing a new version. Therefore, students will be actively involved in the learning process from start to finish, and they will showcase their 3D prints in May. Next school year, students will apply their skills by participating in a 3D Printing Design Challenge.\r\nThank you for providing our students with access to a 3D printer! With your help, students are able to engage in literacy practices in a safe, supportive environment. Increasing my students' literacy skills and love for reading are two of my highest priority goals as a teacher, and I'm able to reach those goals with your generosity.\r\n\r\nStudents love the new books: they are highly interesting and reflect many different perspectives, cultures, and ideas that help them learn and grow. I have a group of boys who have been trading the \"I Survived\" series and discussing them (without being prompted to!) during moments of downtime in class. One student reading \"The Prince and the Dressmaker\" has been able to engage with themes of acceptance and belonging, while also learning more about gender expression and allyship in queer communities. Students are also engaging positively with the File Holders when turning in Exit Tickets or other work; since I ask students to place their work in the bin that best expresses their understanding, it gives them a moment to consider their level of learning before turning in assignments. This helps me give quicker, more precise feedback to them on their writing, which has improved writing performance for the class.","fullyFundedDate":1726679416193,"projectUrl":"project/keeping-the-momentum-going/8761496/","projectTitle":"Keeping the Momentum Going","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Westbrook","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3934144_orig.jpg?crop=2448,2448,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753896641424","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/writewithmswestbrook"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_64445","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":539,"numTeachers":50,"percentFrplEligible":86,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":86,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":11,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"10.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":49.9,"schoolId":64445,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Frederick Douglass High School 450 on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Frederick Douglass High School 450","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/maryland/baltimore-city-public-school-district/frederick-douglass-high-school-450/64445"}
