The majority of my students are new to the United States and new to an American classroom. One of my goals as an educator is to foster student growth by creating a lifelong love of reading. Because my students are new to America, and the English language, they need to start reading with books that are at a more accessible level. The high school I teach at only has books English language books for students with high reading scores, which makes it impossible for my students to pick up a book for pleasure. I require a classroom library that is representative of my students needs, meaning it must be diverse, engaging, and accessible. The books my students and I have selected will serve as a gateway to better reading skills and will help expand student interests. They are excited to begin the journey as new students and new readers!
