Because of you, my students now have access to a wonderful collection of new books that are already making a meaningful difference in how they learn and engage with reading.\r\n\r\nWhile many people love to read, teaching reading involves helping students build specific skills—and these new books are doing just that. The texts introduce and reinforce key reading skills such as comprehension, vocabulary development, character analysis, identifying themes, and making text-to-self and text-to-world connections. Many of the books also support lessons in perseverance, empathy, problem-solving, and understanding different perspectives, which are just as important as academic skills.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is active and joyful. Students read independently each day, choosing books that match their interests and reading levels. We also use books during small-group instruction, partner reading, and whole-class discussions. Students talk about what they're reading, ask questions, make predictions, and share favorite moments with classmates. The classroom truly feels like a community of readers.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who were once reluctant readers are especially enjoying the new books. Having fresh, engaging choices has motivated them to pick up books more often and stick with them longer. Other students are excited to find books that reflect their interests or experiences, and they love recommending favorites to their friends. Seeing their confidence grow has been incredibly rewarding.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in my students and helping create a classroom where reading is exciting, meaningful, and accessible to everyone. Your generosity will have a lasting impact as these books are read, shared, and loved for years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1746787359903,"projectUrl":"project/high-interest-books-to-build-a-love-of-l/9148528/","projectTitle":"High-Interest Books to Build a Love of Literacy","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. McNamara","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9401527_orig.png?crop=1270,1270,x0,y93&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1759686265737","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9401527"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_127603","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":293,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":87,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":16,"percentWhite":6,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":73,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 4","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":56.1,"schoolId":127603,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Clay Hill Public Charter School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Clay Hill Public Charter School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/maryland/baltimore-city-public-school-district/clay-hill-public-charter-school/127603"}
