We have been doing this project for over 20 years now. I know how important this boxes are to children, as I have had former recipients in my class who let me know. It has been really cool to have them participate in a program that they were once on the other side of. \r\n\r\nFor us, books are essential. We feel that students can never be exposed to too many books, especially in today's digital world. To provide books for a large number of students, on the scale that we desire, can be expensive. My aim is to create a conversation among professionals about the English language itself--its beauty, its quirkiness, its ambiguities and its status as the \"International\" language par excellence--in order to get at what we can teach with passion, with a genuine interest in learning for ourselves alongside our charges. To elicit an old example, what's the difference between \"Further\" and \"Farther\"? Why is it so important to teach the present perfect relatively early on in the process of English Acquisition? When is the apostrophe 's possessive not used to indicate possession? \r\n\r\nMy aim was to create the germ of a professional library for reference and dialogue among teachers who are often too busy, or too lost in cyberspace to find authoritative references on which to base their curricular choices. The articulation of grammar is typically a real weak point in American school curriculums, and should be informed by the more solid understanding, based on both Corpora studies and International traditions, that are rational and effective.","fullyFundedDate":1748548155712,"projectUrl":"project/the-best-of-english-grammar/9332491/","projectTitle":"The Best of English Grammar","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Carlini","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp322550_orig.jpg?crop=527,527,x0,y94&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1626019361604","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mr-carlini"},{"teacherId":2968860,"projectId":9162094,"letterContent":"The NCHS Honor society student LOVE doing this project and passing on the tradition. Their faces lit up with surprise and joy as they received their personalized cones filled with supplies and small gifts. Watching our students explain—in both English and bits of German—the meaning behind this tradition made the cultural exchange feel authentic and alive.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, our students didn't just learn about culture—they experienced it and shared it. Because of your generosity, my high school students were able to select and provide books as part of special holiday gift packages for elementary students in need. This project was more than just a donation—it was an opportunity to foster a love for reading, build connections between older and younger students, and spread holiday cheer in a meaningful way.\r\n\r\nWatching my students thoughtfully choose books and contribute to a gift that would bring joy to a younger child was truly inspiring. They took pride in knowing that their efforts would brighten a child's holiday season, and they gained a deeper appreciation for the power of giving back. For the elementary students, receiving a book as part of a special holiday gift helped them feel seen, valued, and excited about reading.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has had a ripple effect beyond the holiday season.
