One student said, \"Oh my God, we got teacher markers!\" Students love flair markers, and when they get to use them it is a special treat and a big deal. \r\nOur next steps in 8th grade math is to teach students how to use their notes to study and prepare for upcoming lessons. With the generous support of our donors, we were able to use the laundry supplies to wash more than 65 donated uniform pieces, creating a clean, accessible collection of clothing that students can borrow when they need it. This has allowed students to come to school feeling more comfortable, confident, and ready to learn.\r\n\r\nThe hygiene supplies have also directly supported families in our school community. Six families reached out before the school year began because they needed hygiene supplies, and we were able to provide them with complete hygiene kits. The caregivers were very impressed that our kits included laundry supplies- an often overlooked hygiene necessity. They appreciated the name brand products and having what they needed to wash 2 loads of laundry for their family. We continue to have many hygiene kits available for students throughout the school year, ensuring that students can access these essential items when needed.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, this project sends students the message that their basic needs matter and that their school community wants to support them. By providing clean clothing and hygiene supplies without shame or judgment, we are helping students feel prepared and confident to attend school every day. Everyone knows that teachers buy most of their supplies, but it hurts the wallets even more to buy the tools to motivate students on top of supplies. Students can only use so many stickers.. and homework passes aren't as cool as they used to be... But chips, drinks and candy always prevail. \r\n\r\nThis year, I noticed more students using the majority of the testing time, using the online tools, and checking their answer. That is a huge improvement from years past, and I know that these snacks and drinks had something to do with it! Students know that there are people out there that care about their success, so they are more inclined to try harder and push themselves to succeed. This fieldtrip is held at Sandy Point State Park and is a festival for students to celebrate their fundraising efforts. It is a very busy, fun, exciting, but cold day. \r\n\r\nThe buckets that were donated to our school will be used for years to come for each student to have a place for their wet clothes, shoes, personal belongings, and have a place to sit! There is limited seating at the Polar Bear Plunge because there are so many schools and students that attend. It worked out perfectly for students to have a secure, dry place for their belongings, and have a spot to sit, relax, and eat lunch. \r\n\r\nMy students were a little hesitant about the buckets at first, but once they saw how useful they are for this specific field trip, they were so happy and grateful! The snacks the were also donated due to the hats not shipping in time were so well received by students! This space has become a calm and inviting area where students can practice independent reading, partner reading, and vocabulary work. One of my favorite moments was seeing a student who is usually hesitant to read aloud choose the reading corner, sit comfortably, and confidently share a short passage with a peer. The relaxed environment has truly helped lower anxiety and increase engagement.\r\n\r\n As soon as they saw the bean bags, their faces lit up and they immediately asked when they could start using the reading corner. They felt proud to have a space designed just for them, and it made them feel valued and excited about reading. Several students said it made reading feel more \"fun\" and less stressful.\r\n\r\nAs next steps, students will continue building their reading stamina and comprehension skills using leveled texts in the reading corner. We are working on identifying main ideas, learning new vocabulary, and practicing speaking skills through partner discussions. I have been able to stock up a large wardrobe in our locker rooms to allow students to have access to a change of clothes for dance classes and our after school programming. Upon request, students borrow these athletic tops and bottoms and they are laundered between uses. Having so many different sizes allows me to accommodate all students, and the amount that I have also allows me as a teacher to not need to constantly be laundering them when I have other pressing things to do.\r\n\r\nThis uniform look allows students to feel confident and move with ease as their school uniform can be restrictive. My Algebra 1 class, finished a project on exponential decay by researching cars that they would like to buy.
