For students who have a hard time picking out a book that is just the right fit for them, having access to a bunch of grade options from a wide variety of genres makes it much more likely that the book that sets them on the path to becoming a lifelong reader will end up in their hands. \r\n\r\nWe give students about 10 minutes at the start of each class to read a book of their own choice. The hope is that this reading time sparks reading that that sneaks into the rest of our students' day. For the more reluctant readers, showing up with their choice book is sometimes a barrier. I have shown a few students this shipment of books that has officially started a real classroom library, and they were genuinely pumped to see what we have. There is something here for just about everybody. We have this resource for our students because of you.","fullyFundedDate":1762532861766,"projectUrl":"project/classroom-library-seeks-just-right-boo/9855831/","projectTitle":"Classroom Library Seeks \"Just Right\" Books for 9th/10th Graders","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. G","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10328501_orig.jpg?crop=100,100,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1761245620038","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10328501"},{"teacherId":6203084,"projectId":9387206,"letterContent":"I cannot thank you enough for taking an interest in my project request. I love to read and I wanted to find a way to get more students in my classroom interested in reading too. It is not often that students in history classes are reading books therefore it was important that I find one that would be engaging for everyone. The book, Sapiens has lots of different historical chapters that are covered. This allowed me to use the book with both my 9th as well as my 11th grade students. \r\nThe book was first used with my 9th grade students to learn more about the agricultural revolution. We specifically look at the domestication of animals as well as crop development. Reading this graphic novel section allowed students to see how these developments have impacted us today. I also used the section on segregation with my 11th grade students as we dived into examining Reconstruction and its aftermath with civil rights. \r\nI am excited to continue to use the books as supplemental material for lessons that are being taught. Thank you again for your generous donation to help put books into my classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1755732402725,"projectUrl":"project/engage-curiosity-and-unlock-the-secrets/9387206/","projectTitle":"Engage Curiosity and Unlock the Secrets of Ancient Civilizations","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bailey","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6203084_orig.png?crop=272,272,x331,y179&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1710955102613","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6203084"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_65311","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":997,"numTeachers":69,"percentFrplEligible":36,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":21,"percentWhite":62,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":7,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"14.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":69.9,"schoolId":65311,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about South Portland High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"South Portland High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/maine/south-portland-city-school-district/south-portland-high-school/65311"}
