The students had been asking about them, and once they arrived, the excitement intensified with debates about the various characters. Almost all of them had seen the movie, but none had read the book. They all had read The Hunger Games in sophomore English and watched the movies. They were so eager to start reading!\r\n\r\nWe are a third of the way through the book as I write this. We are reading it together in class so we can discuss each chapter as a group. We are also watching snippets of the movie as we go, comparing how novels are structured versus their movies. We are also comparing the account of the civil war in Panem and its aftermath to actual wars and their aftermaths. And no discussion of anything related to the Hunger Games is complete without talking about gladiator battles in ancient Rome. This book is compelling and thought-provoking as we look at the individual characters and the society as a whole.
