The sensory materials and calming area give students a comfortable space to regulate their emotions, manage big feelings, and practice self-regulation. The soft seating and cozy environment provide opportunities for students to relax, reset, and return to learning when they are ready. The hands-on sensory wall encourages curiosity, fine motor development, exploration, and problem-solving. The classroom resources also help students build independence, develop confidence, and strengthen their ability to focus and participate in classroom activities.\r\n Most importantly, these items help create and inclusive environment where every child has access to tools and support that meet their individual needs. Because of your generosity, my students have more opportunities to feel successful, build positive relationships, and develop the skills they need to thrive in school and beyond. I am blown away at the outpouring of generosity and support for my DonorsChoose project. As my first ever DonorsChoose project, I didn't know what to expect or if I'd reach my goal. Thanks to your support and encouragement I was able to exceed my goal and supply my students with a sensory room. \r\n The sensory room is filled with 3 zones of regulation: tactile, movement, and calm. Students are able to gravitate towards the zone they feel will help them best regulate their mind and body. It's neat to see students take ownership of their own needs and help themselves to what they feel they need most. Students rotate through the sensory room in 15 minute increments all day. \r\n One specific movement area includes the parachute and floormats. The students love seeing the parachute float up into the air under their control. The floormats are a fun and welcomed alternative to standard school floor tile and rugs. Using these tools together allow for students to not only have fun, but use the sensory output they need to regulate themselves in a safe way. \r\n The sensory room's next steps include switching out new activities in the 3 zones on a monthly basis, as well as setting up a specialized swing in the movement area.
