When my students first saw the incline cheese mat and the octagon mat, their faces lit up with excitement. My students have never had a gymnastics unit before, so this was a completely new, thrilling opportunity for them.\r\n\r\nSince receiving the mats, they have been an incredible addition to our physical education program. We have been using the incline mat for rolls, safe jumping, and landing exercises, and the octagon mat for teaching backbends. During our gymnastics unit, students practiced foundational skills like balances, rolls, and jumps across stations, transferring their weight safely from hands to feet and combining movements with control.\r\n\r\nThe mats have also been versatile beyond gymnastics. For our Winter Olympics unit, the incline mat became a ramp for our mogul ski station, showing the students how creative movement and problem solving can be applied across activities. I am committed to finding as many ways as possible to use these mats throughout the year, and they will be a permanent part of our gymnastics unit every year.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, my students are learning strength, balance, flexibility, and control in a safe and engaging way. They are gaining confidence as they master new skills, challenge themselves, and celebrate one another's progress. Next, we will continue building on these foundational skills, working toward more advanced balances, rolls, and jumps, culminating in our class gymnastics routines where students showcase everything they have learned.\r\n\r\nWe could not have done it without you, and your support is truly making a lasting impact on our students' physical literacy and love of movement!","fullyFundedDate":1764108162764,"projectUrl":"project/tumbling-toward-success-gymnastics-in-e/9703781/","projectTitle":"Tumbling Toward Success: Gymnastics in Elementary PE","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Clymer","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8483436_orig.jpg?crop=2400,2400,x0,y304&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1677162861493","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8483436"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_58636","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":453,"numTeachers":33,"percentFrplEligible":93,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":94,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":1,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"13.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":66.2,"schoolId":58636,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Northern Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Northern Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/kentucky/pendleton-county-school-district/northern-elementary-school/58636"}
