Currently, my students are sitting on a 20- year-old rug that is falling apart. They will be so excited to have a "spot" just right for sitting on and listening to and participating in great literature oral reading. During this time students benefit from hearing oral vocabulary, listening to the teacher fluently read, developing oral comprehension skills and as an added bonus....develop a life-long love of books! Each book we read aloud becomes a good friend to us. We refer back to these titles and even compare and contrast their stories. My students and I all value our read aloud time and this rug will enable us to enjoy this time even more!
