It has been such a joy to see students digging into these texts and unearthing a desire to read and pursue literature on a deeper level. Students were eager to receive their first novel, Iceberg, at our January meeting, and they were even more eager to discuss it when we met again in February. We began by reading the first couple chapters together, and students groaned when it was time to dismiss our club. They were desperate to continue reading!\r\n\r\nStudents discussed the book and began working on a project based learning assignment that correlates to the book at the February meeting, and they will present those to their peers at the March meeting. Students are learning to apply their thinking and extend their knowledge beyond the basic comprehension of the text to create projects that represent various aspects of the text.\r\n\r\nSome students were so excited about having access to these books that they have come to me to get the next novel, Remember Me Gone, after they finished Iceberg. Two of those students have already read both novels and are very much looking forward to discussing them with their classmates. It is such a joy and honor to spark a love of reading with these students.
