My class was so excited when the boxes arrived and we were able to take the boxes of cereal that were donated to the collection point in the school library- with the donations that we received, we almost doubled what our school had collected at that point! Though I had to keep some kids from digging into their favorites (joking!) they had a lot of pride in being able to provide the same cereal they love to eat to kids in our community that are more food-insecure. It was a powerful experience for them to develop this community service project, organize it, advertise it with posters around the school and reminders on the morning announcements, and finally collect the boxes. \r\n\r\nSince I teach 7th grade, my students will still have another year in our school and are already talking about having a similar cereal drive next year.
